Adero Willard: Alleviating Quiet

  • Cotuit Center for the Arts 4404 Falmouth Rd. Cotuit, Ma United States (map)

"Alleviating Quiet is a visual challenge to stillness. The intricacies of contrasting pattern and color on these large coil-built vessels present a visual clamor; voices as juxtaposing shapes on clay. My continual pursuit to develop ornate and complex surfaces on the clay form works alongside an inclination to express identity through an abstract language of pattern and color, receding and advancing. Decoration is created using resists, layers of applied color, and etched surfaces. Ornamentation becomes foundation."

Adero Willard lives as an artist and educator in Western Massachusetts. She received a BFA at Alfred University in 1995 and MFA at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2006. Nationally and internationally, Adero has exhibited work in solo and group galleries, craft shows, and pottery invitationals. Her work has been featured in a number of publications and books on ceramics. Her interest in surface decoration is lifelong and is fueled by a passion for gardening and cooking and a love of textile design, painting, collage.
