Wine and Music Wednesday at the Cotuit Center for the Arts

Wine and Music Wednesday is an open house held in our Gallery on the third Wednesday of every month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, with wine tasting and live music. The first event was held in March of 2010 and it has become a very popular event at the Center. It’s the perfect way to end your day, start your evening or just join friends for a night out looking at terrific art. Join us for a splendid selection of wines and entertainment featuring Gary Girouard.

Gary Girouard is a self-proclaimed piano ‘troubadour’ – spinning intimate confessions and emotional stories through evocative solo piano melodies. Girouard’s expressive style of contemporary piano combines equal parts classical (think Chopin), and new age (George Winston) into “a masterpiece, a testament to a fluid live recording” (Boston Live), and “a must-have for your solo piano collection” (SoloPiano.com). Girouard’s Naked Piano series is heard by over 3.4 million Pandora listeners and has garnered critical and popular acclaim including multiple “Album of the Year” awards and nominations.

SKA-lloween with The NB Rude Boys

Celebrate Halloween with us as we rock out with The NB Rude Boys for SkA-lloween, October 25th from 6-9 pm at the brewery!

SKA - Three different types: "Traditional", "2-Tone" and "3rd Wave". Traditional came about in the late 1950s as new dance music straight out of Jamaica. 2-Tone is named such because whites and blacks came together to form ska bands to spread unity in the 1970s. 3rd Wave is when ska hit America in the late 1980s, and added a bit of punk flair.

Also a very flexible style of music, incorporateable into other styles, which is why it's still around today and has such a large and diverse fan base.

An Evening with Matt Nakoa

"Nakoa does not disappoint. In fact, between his piano chops, charismatic stage presence, and heartfelt originals on guitar, he drops jaws.”

The Boston Globe

MATT NAKOA is an internationally touring singer/songwriter, recently appearing at The White House, throughout India, and regularly with folk icon Tom Rush. Growing up on a small goat farm in rural NY State, Matt discovered music as a means of teenage escape and trained to be a concert pianist. Matt was ultimately accepted as a vocalist to Berklee College of Music where he studied alongside soon-to-be Grammy winners St. Vincent and Esperanza Spalding among others. After school, Matt landed in NYC’s vibrant piano bar scene. There he quickly became a star performer at Manhattan’s famous Brandy’s Piano Bar, with lines waiting outside the door each Saturday night.

As if illustrating two sides of himself, Matt’s first album, Light In The Dark (2012), is a sweeping pop opus, while A Dozen Other Loves (2014) explores an intimate acoustic palette. Across the board his song craft has garnered awards, including a win at Kerrville Folk Festival’s prestigious New Folk Competition. Though not easily pinned down, “In sum,” as a recent review on CoverLayDown.com put it, “Matt Nakoa is a musical adept, one of those well kept secrets you just can’t help but celebrate: intimate and genuine, soulful and bittersweet, a rich poetic songbook sung in praise to a complicated, emotionally present world.”

Brazen Belles Summer Striptacular!

The Brazen Belles are one of New England’s premiere Burlesque troupes. These dangerous flirts, rowdy rabble-rousers, and saucy comediennes have been teasing their way throughout the country to sold out audiences since 2012. Winners of the Las vegas Burlesque Festival in 2015, They also performed at The Burlesque Hall of Fame’s “Movers, Shakers and Innovators” showcase 2016. The Belles bring a variety of talents: singing, dancing, wit, sass, and of course seduction to the stage. They will have you laughing, lusting, and longing for more!

Queens of the corset, sirens of the stage, dolls of the dance floor! WE ARE YOUR VILLAGE VAUDEVILLE.

Burlesque is a diverse form of entertainment pulling theatrical, dance, and sketch comedy elements from many historical eras together to provide a creative spin on society’s traditional, and often oppressive, stereotypes of women. While the art of burlesque includes acts of a sexual nature, the goal of performing these expressions is never intended to be offensive of harmful to others, but rather empowering, particularly to women, by embracing the existence of female sexuality in light of differing body types, genders, race and ethnicity, upbringings, and so on. Our troupe stands in firm belief that this beautiful art form is relevant in its mission and provides important empowerment to our friends, family, local community and Beyond!

MARILYN MAYE
with BILLY STRITCH at the piano

Marilyn Maye is a highly praised singer, actress, director, arranger, educator, a Grammy-nominated recording artist and a musical treasure. Her entire life has been committed to the art of song and performance.

The award-winning Ms. Maye appeared 76 times on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson the record for a singer. Perhaps the simplest Marilyn Maye accolade came after one of her show-stopping appearances on The Tonight Show when turning to his audience of millions, Johnny Carson said, And that, young singers, is the way it’s done.

Marilyn began her professional singing career by winning a 13-week appearance on radio station WIBW, Topeka, Kansas, at age 9. She has been committed her entire life to the art of song and performance. During her eleven-year engagement at the Colony in Kansas City, she was discovered by Steve Allen who was the first to present her various times to a national television audience. The Steve Allen performances led her to an RCA recording contract.

Her RCA recordings consist of seven albums and 34 singles, including the first hit recordings of Cabaret and Step to the Rear. Her album with a full orchestra, The Lamp is Low, is considered a classic.

Her place in American music history was assured when the Arts Council of the Smithsonian Institution selected one of her recordings, Too Late Now for the Smithsonian-produced album of the 110 Best American Compositions of the Twentieth Century.

Her many symphony concert appearances around the United States, include the Florida Symphony, The Philly Pops, The Phoenix Symphony, The Kansas City Symphony, The Omaha Symphony, and in June 2015, The Pasadena Symphony, Michael Feinstein conducting. Her two appearances with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall for tributes to Stephen Sondheim and Frank Loesser. These two performances received show-stopping applause and rave reviews.

Miles/Coltrane Tribute Vol. 2 with Joe Mongelli and the Cape Jazz Crew

Miles/Coltrane Tribute Vol. 2 with

Joe Mongelli and the Cape Jazz Crew

Saturday, August 17, 8-10pm. During the late '50s and early '60s, Miles Davis and John Coltrane produced some of the greatest jazz music ever recorded. This concert pays homage to that collaboration featuring meticulous recreations of Miles and Trane's most memorable music. Last year, Volume 1 to this concert played to rave reviews and sold out at both Preservation Hall and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Of course, one concert is not enough to cover all the great music from Miles and Trane, so this year we've added even more of their best-known music- cool Miles tunes and smoking Coltrane originals. The all Harwich horn section features Joe Mongelli on trumpet and Scott Avidon channeling Trane. Other band members include Cape regulars Mark Borgmann on piano, Michael Ryle on bass and Mark Prall on drums. Don't miss it! $20. For tickets call 508-394-7100.

Well-Strung in Concert

Cotuit Center for the Arts & Mark Cortale present
WELL-STRUNG
The Singing String Quartet

Well-Strung, featuring Edmund Bagnell (first violin), Christopher Marchant (second violin), Daniel Shevlin (cello) and Trevor Wadleigh (viola), is a string quartet with a modern twist. The group plays universally recognized classical pieces while singing pop music hits from the likes of Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, and other pop stars for a uniquely engaging experience.

The New York Times recently called Well-Strung "A talented quartet of men who sing and play instruments brilliantly fuses pop and classical music from Madonna to Beethoven."

Conceived by Mark Cortale and Christopher Marchant, the foursome formed in 2012 and has since gained international attention. They have been invited to perform at the Vatican in Rome and at a gala for President Obama. Their hit ‘viral’ music video “Chelsea’s Mom” led to a special requested performance for 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton herself. They have also performed with artists such as Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Audra McDonald, Deborah Voigt and they were the opening act for Joe Jonas and his band DNCE at Pride Toronto. They have performed twice with the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus and this December they will co-star in two Christmas concerts at Town Hall in Manhattan with the New York City Gay Men's Chorus. The group has received critical acclaim at New York’s prestigious Feinstein's/54 Below and well beyond, from the House of Blues in New Orleans to the Leicester Square Theatre in London.

"Shower the People" The James Taylor Tribute Band, in Concert

"Shower the People"

The James Taylor Tribute Band, in Concert

Saturday, August 10 at 7:30pm and Sunday, August 11 at 3pm. This is a "must see" performance for James Taylor fans. Come listen and sing along with Cape Cod's own Greg Johnson and his band as they share the story behind the man and recreate the music that has touched millions of people around the world. Although Taylor's career lasted long after his success in the '60s and '70s, this tribute show concentrates on his early life and music. Haunted by the demons from his past, James Taylor found the inner strength to follow his dream of becoming a famous musician. You will hear the story behind each song and be invited to sing along to some of J.T.'s most famous hits. Greg Johnson has been performing around New England for over three decades and attributes his inspiration to the music of James Taylor and the image of the sensitive southern gentleman who spoke through his music. The JT Tribute Band features Greg Johnson (guitar and lead vocals), Brian Morris (keyboard, mandolin, electric guitar and backup vocals), Andrew Morris (bass), Derick Bousseier (drums), Janet Leahy (backup vocals), Julie Sieben (backup vocals), Bruce Abbott (flute and saxophone). Complimentary refreshments. $20. For reservations call 508-394-7100.
