Sea Captains’ Row -mural,  Artists Mary-Ann Agresti + Jackie Reeves.  Pleasant Street, Hyannis, 2016

Sea Captains’ Row highlights the rich history of this dynamic neighborhood, established by prominent sea captains and their families in the 1800’s. Their spirit of exploration and vision for prosperity influenced the region’s development. The image highlights the architectural styles and innovations of that time. The visitor is invited to stand with the painted figures and silhouettes and be a part of the mural. Post your photos on #seacaptain.barnstable.  Mary-Ann Agresti AIA is an artist, architect and educator, with a studio in Hyannis.

“In September 1854, soon after the Old Colony Railroad reached Hyannis, tracks were extended to the harbor to meet passengers and goods from Nantucket and abroad.  This late 19th century photograph depicts James Otis, a relative of the famous patriot, and William Usher Ormsby standing near Railroad Wharf in anticipation of an incoming ship.  Ormsby owned a cartage company; his horse and cart are at left”.
